SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Visitor Services Specialist helps guests have the best possible experience at the Museum of Science! The VSS functions as a member of the Museum’s sales and guest service force — selling tickets and memberships and proactively making suggestions to guests at point of purchase to match guest interests to Museum offerings and meet sales goals. In addition, the VSS conducts school group check in, operates the Thrill Ride 360 simulators, 4-D Theater, coat room, and Omni Theater front-of-house, and controls access to venues including Exhibit Halls, Discovery Center, Butterfly Garden, 4-D Theater, Omni Theater and may work within temporary exhibits such as our upcoming exhibit “Space: An Out of Gravity Experience”.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•20,000 – 50,000 guests per week depending on the season.
•Up to 15,000 guests per day during school vacation week / holiday periods or special exhibitions.
•Up to 500 transactions per cashier, per day.
•This is a uniformed position.
•Additional shifts and/or extended hours may be required to accommodate peak periods such as school vacation weeks and summer hours.
WORK SCHEDULE:
This position is temporary, part-time, 28 hrs/wk, with the following schedule:
•Tuesday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
•Wednesday: 8:45am – 5:15pm*
•Thursday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
•Friday: 5:15pm – 9:15pm
•Saturday: 8:45am – 5:15pm*
*Summer and Vacation weeks: 5:15pm-7:15pm
Employees in good standing can apply for regular, on-going shifts or stay on as a casual, on-call employee after the position ends.
REPORTS TO:
Director, Visitor Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•HS Diploma or equivalent.
•Two (2) or more years of customer service or sales experience.
•Demonstrated customer service and communication skills
•Ability to match guest interest to Museum offerings and effectively up-sell additional offerings to meet sales goals
•Demonstrated attention to detail.
•Ability to address guests, ranging from one on one to groups of more than 300 at a time, in a professional manner
•Ability to juggle many tasks calmly and efficiently in a fast paced setting.
•Ability to work independently
•Basic math skills sufficient to collect payment and make accurate change on transactions, compare costs of guest purchase options, or keep accurate capacity counts
STARTING SALARY: Non-Exempt (Hourly). $13.00/hr, including sales commission opportunities.
