Description
KPFF Consulting Engineers’ Bridge Group seeks a qualified, experienced bridge inspection engineer for a full-time position. This person will perform bridge inspections, coordinate with team members and access control subcontractors during inspections, and write inspection reports. Inspection projects include complex bridges and major river crossings requiring routine and in-depth assessment of fracture critical, cable stayed, suspension, and arch bridges.
Travel to various bridges in Illinois and to other locations in the United States, providing hands-on structural and condition inspections of bridges and other transportation related structures. Office duties will include load rating calculations, preparing inspection reports and developing rehabilitation designs and plans in collaboration with the KPFF project team.
Minimum Qualifications and requirements
• BS degree in Structural or Civil Engineering
• Illinois PE
• Minimum of 7 years of bridge inspection experience
• Ability to meet and to be certified in accordance with FHWA’s National Bridge Inspection Standards for both Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges and Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
• Must be able to climb ladders, use man lifts and UBIT’s, and work safely at heights, including over water locations
• Experience in common computer applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel) along with CSi SAP2000
• Work occasional nights and weekends
Preferred Requirements
• Training and experience in cable supported bridges, and the use of Visual, Ultrasonic, and Magnetic Particle NDT methods for bridge and weld inspection
• Experience with rope access/climbing inspection, and certification by Society of Professional Rope Technicians (SPRAT)
