SUMMARY
Partner Engineering and Science, Inc. (Partner) is seeking qualified licensed P.E. or S.E. in our Phoenix, AZ office. This position will support one or more activities related to seismic retrofit analysis and design and seismic risk evaluation for real estate transactions.

We are looking for an engineer with solid competence and an understanding of new building design — preferably with more than 10-years of industry experience and design familiarity with large or midsize construction projects. The applicant should have an understanding or strong working knowledge of structural forensic work and or seismic due diligence. The position will self-sort the applicant to support the seismic risk assessment and structural assessment practice or the retrofit design practice for soft story retrofit.
The latter largely focuses on design and application of steel moment frames, cantilever column systems, connection detailing and foundation design. Our design practice focuses largely on the emerging soft/weak story retrofit needs but also branches out into a variety of other projects and structural engineering solutions for our clients. The position contains the opportunity to grow an engineering business line and become an industry leader in a high demand specialty practice.
The former requires technical writing skills, strong engineering fundamentals, an understanding of existing construction, resourcefulness, and a willingness to travel one to two days per week. Additional opportunities and valuable skills include seismic performance modeling using SAP/Perform, ETABS, RISA, EnerCalc.
RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE
-Perform structural calculations in accordance with modern and historic buildings codes in support of building investigations or seismic retrofit.
-Visit properties and conduct on-site reconnaissance including structural evaluations, visual observation, plan reviews and existing report reviews
-Conduct project research including building department searches and internet research
-Author seismic risk assessment reports in accordance with Partner standards and industry best practices.
-Effectively communicate project progress and issues with the Project Manager and maintain communication with team members throughout the course of the project
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelors Degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering from an accredited university is required
-Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in the field of structural engineering is required
-Master Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is desirable
-PE License is required, S.E. is preferred.
-Experience with wood frame residential design and renovation is useful
-Experience in the analysis and design of structures in regions of high seismicity
-Experience in the design of wood-framed concrete, steel, and masonry structures
-Solid understanding of modern buildings codes and seismic provisions
-Excellent communication and writing skills is required. The position requires the ability to communicate technical issues in written reports to clients with limited technical understanding in structural and seismic engineering.
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS
-Must be a self motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
-Must be an enthusiastic, quick learner with a strong desire to grow within the organization
-Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for internal and external (client) communications; technical writing skills must be exceptional
-Must have excellent multi-tasking skills and the ability to effectively complete work on projects concurrently
-Proven ability to successfully deliver a quality product on time
-Ability to cultivate strong relationships within a team
-Experience with structural analysis software packages, including SAP, ETABS, RISA and Enercalc
-Proficient with AutoCAD, with the ability to prepare structural design documents
-Proficient with standard business applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
-Must be able to read, write, speak & comprehend English
-Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone
-Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screen
-Requires frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout the work shift
