The Pharmaceutical Development department at Calithera Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated individual to participate in the development, application and technology transfer of HPLC, LC-MS and other analytical methods for characterization of small molecule drug substance and product. In addition to expertise in HPLC, the ideal candidate will have small molecule formulation/preformulation experience and knowledge of GMPs and the ability to quickly learn new techniques as needed.
Company Background
Calithera Biosciences is a publicly traded company focused on discovering and developing novel small molecule drugs directed against tumor metabolism and tumor immunology targets for the treatment of cancer. Our lead product candidate, CB-839, is an internally discovered, first-in-class inhibitor of glutaminase, a critical enzyme in tumor metabolism. We are currently evaluating CB-839 in three Phase 1 clinical trials in solid and hematological tumors.
Primary Responsibilities
• Develop small molecule HPLC and other analytical methods for Drug Substance and Drug Product characterization
• Provide (non-GMP) analytical support for small molecule preformulation, formulation development, stability and other studies
• Prepare and characterize formulations for preclinical studies
• Develop and apply small molecule Preparative HPLC methods
• Assist in analytical methods transfer to and management/oversight of contract research organizations engaged in Drug Substance or Drug Product development and production
• Maintain HPLC and other instrumentation
• Write technical reports as necessary
• Effectively communicate in oral and/or in written form to internal or external audiences
Requirements
• Bachelor\’s degree or higher in physical or biological sciences with a minimum of 3 years relevant industrial research and development experience
• Substantial small molecule HPLC and LC-MS methods development experience
• Excellent independent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Basic knowledge of GMPs
• Preparative HPLC experience a plus
• Knowledge of small molecule preformulation and formulation development a plus
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
