California’s Great America is seeking a Communications Manager. The Manager, Communications is responsible for all earned, owned, and shared marketing channels with principal focus on the areas of: Digital Marketing, Public Relations, and Social Media. Leads development of integrated communication planning and manages the team of marketing/communication associates responsible for the tactical execution against those plans in support of business goals.
Responsibilities:
•Develop seasonal/ ad-hoc web and mobile app content in collaboration with corporate marketing that delivers high-impact
photo/video/copy points about critical attendance and revenue driving initiatives.
•Responsible for digital touchpoints including e-newsletters and ad hoc emails, mobile app content and messaging, SEO
optimization of owned content, and SEM campaign evaluations.
•Maintains and regularly reports on PR & digital impressions/placement tracking to measure effectiveness of KPIs including, but
not limited to: reach, engagement, # of placements, media value, hashtag use, etc.
•Evaluates commercial filming opportunities (with leadership’s engagement) and is responsible for the planning and execution of
all shoots green lit to film on-property.
•Manages all theme park photo and video shoots, inclusive of shot list preparation, vendor selection, cost management, talent
management, and asset selection/delivery.
•Assist with some government relations workstreams as assigned by leadership. This may include attending meetings and
developing communication strategies for community and/or government stakeholders.
•Ideates new and innovative digital tactics, leveraging multi-platform opportunities wherever possible and forging new
partnerships with earned (and sometimes paid) third party content sites and influencers. Must be willing to take risks with
new, unproven/untested digital and/or PR creative ideas and soundly evaluate the efficacy of new efforts for repeated future use.
•Must responsibly manage expenses and be solely accountable for a balanced dedicated operating and seasonal labor budget
on an annual basis. Monthly reforecasting of planned expenses is required.
•Responsible for creating, updating, and closing WorkZone (Cedar Fair project management tool) tasks and approvals as
campaigns and partners require throughout the season.
•Responsible for the planning, execution, and after-action KPI reporting for media & blogger events. This requires collaboration
and alignment with a cross-functional team to ensure events are strategically on-message, optimized for earned media
coverage opportunities, and excecuted with excellence using superb proactive inter-departmental communication.
•Champion public/media relations efforts to drive earned media coverage of new news, and to defend the brand’s reputation in
times of crisis. In this regard, the Manager, Communications will run point on all crisis communication work flow, collaborating
with site and corporate leadership as necessary.
•Speech writing experience a plus, but not mandatory.
•Serve as primary copywriter for Marketing & Sales copy needs, including revising/updating existing copy and creating all-new
content. Most frequent copy needs include press releases and other media advisories, web content (new and updates), and
special event wayfinding guides.
•Foster new, tender existing, and and manage all relations with industry/high affinity social influencers and content generators
for favorable coverage and leveraged content.
•Confidently lead the team of direct reports toward successful completion of a balanced portfolio of plans and tactics across
earned media, owned-digital, and social media.
•Manage the park’s earned, owned, and shared editorial content calendars, ensuring they are strategically built and flexibly
maintained with the most critical attendance-driving campaigns/messages as central to the calendars and touch points.
•Lead the development of integrated communication plans, partnering with park leadership, agency, and/or coporate marketing
to align on priorities against which plans are developed. Present completed plans to a variety of executive audiences.
•Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO
policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
•Other duties may be assigned.
•HTML coding experience a plus, but not mandatory.
•Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products, Adobe Creative suite of products, Mac AND PC computing,
DropBox file sharing system, and understand basic project managent software logic.
•Must have advanced experience with PowerPoint and intermediate Excel experience.
•Advanced experience in managing B2C social media platforms, inclusive of community engagement.
•Experience and understanding of APA style for formal press communications.
Qualifications:
•Experience managing to or under an established department budget.
•Experience managing logistics of complex film and photo shoots. Photo/video shoot art direction experience a plus.
•Experience with website management, including HTLM coding and partnering with agencies on content strategy and evaluating
key performance indicators.
•Experience managing social media handles for highly public brands, including editorial calendar planning, content posting, and
community engagement.
•Ability to work a flexible schedule, as needed, including weekends, holidays and 24/7 availability.
•Maintain a high degree of marketplace awareness and comprehension of emerging mar/comm trends and technologies, and
apply emerging technology to the work when feasible.
•Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable communicating with and influencing all levels of the organization, media partners,
agencies, and vendors.
•Must be detail oriented and possess excellent planning skills.
•High degree of PC literacy including MS Office suite, Adobe suite photography/video production software.
•Excellent composition, proofing, and editing skills. Must be able to write in various voices for various audiences.
•Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
•Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV,
previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.
•Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
•Driver’s License
