Job Description:
The Landscape Maintenance Foreman is a leadership position responsible for the landscape maintenance care of residential and or commercial properties amongst his/her route. The position is responsible for timely, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient responses to client’s and management’s needs. The Landscape Maintenance Foreman will be responsible for managing a crew (typically 1-3 persons), to comply with the company’s productivity requirements, policies, and safety regulations. This position requires rigorous physical work in which employees will engage in activities such as mowing, edging, pruning, shearing, weeding, trimming, blowing, raking, shoveling, loading, lifting and more. The Landscape Maintenance Foreman will also be responsible for the care and proper utilization of all equipment and tools. This position also requires such responsibilities as being in charge of daily route notes/photo taking, leadership, strong communication to management, fuel/equipment/chemical usage notations and more. Leadership, Landscape Knowledge and Landscape Experience is Required for this position.
The Landscape Maintenance Crewman is a team-based position responsible for improving the landscape maintenance care of residential and or commercial properties amongst his/her crews route. The position is responsible for timely, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient responses to client’s and management’s needs. The Landscape Maintenance Crewman will work with a crew team of typically 1-3 persons in which is overseen by a Landscape Maintenance Foreman. This position requires rigorous physical work in which employees will engage in activities such as mowing, edging, pruning, shearing, weeding, trimming, blowing, raking, shoveling, loading, lifting and more. The Landscape Maintenance Crewman will also be responsible for the care and proper utilization of all equipment and tools. This position also requires such responsibilities as general hauling of debris/lifting, operating power tools/equipment, working on ladders/hands-knees, mixing/loading fuel, cleaning vehicles/equipment, and more.
Qualifications:
There are no particular education requirements to be either a Landscape Maintenance Foreman or Landscape Maintenance Crewman, however a high school diploma/some college is preferred and practical experience is required.
– Landscape Maintenance Foremen are required to have at least 3-4 years industry experience in a leadership position.
– Landscape Maintenance Crewmen are required to have at least 1-2 years industry experience.
Foremen and Crewmen will maintain grounds of residential, industrial, commercial, government or public property by performing the following duties with the following qualifications:
* Mowing and cutting lawns using various sized power mowers including both walk behinds and ride on mowers.
* Trimming and edging lawns/ground cover using a gas powered edger/trimmer.
* Operating a gas powered blower for debris cleanup
* Trimming shrubs, grasses, ground covers and small trees to shape and improve growth. Knowledge of how to remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs using either hand pruners, shears, loppers, handsaws or gas powered hedge trimmers. Knowledge of natural-form pruning for health/disease control is a must.
* Planting annual florals, shrubs, perennials, and small trees alongside proper care.
* Applying chemicals or fertilizers such as general non-selective/selective herbicides, turf fertilizers, and insect sprays is a must. Must know how to operate backpack sprayers and are required to wear PPE during pesticide applications.
* Must have knowledge in performing light irrigation repair (i.e. sprinkler head repairs, nozzle repairs, drip line repairs, and basic controller skills).
* Picking up leaves, trash, debris and cut grass while placing them onto burlap/tarps/containers and placing onto a truck or trailer. Heavy lifting/hauling is required.
* Perform manual weeding by hand or hula hoe operation.
* Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) communication is a big plus.
* The Foreman should possess a horticultural or strong plant knowledge background.
* The Foreman should have a strong working knowledge of all landscape maintenance equipment and tools.
Drivers license preferred but not required.
Certifications:
Industry certifications (i.e. CLT/CLP, QA/QAC, Bay-Friendly, QWEL, Green Gardener, Master Gardener, etc.) are not required, but are preferred at the Foreman level. A valid California driver’s license is not required but is preferred alongside a good driving record.
Experience:
At least 3-4 years experience is required for Foremen and at least 1-2 years for crewmen. Experience is preferred working within either the landscaping, irrigation, landscape construction, agricultural, tree care or nursery industries.
