PHI is seeking a full time Java Developer for the Global Health Fellows Program II. This position is located in Oakland, CA.
We are looking for a java developer with a deep understanding of Java and Java Frameworks. Also critical are attention to detail, quality, solid communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as on a collaborative, agile team. You will work on enhancements and new feature development of a custom built application. The ideal candidate will possess the skills to develop powerful yet intuitive user interface, be able to work and be innovative given general goals, with minimal supervision needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
•Analyze, design, code, inspect, debug, and test applications with emphasis on Java/J2EE development
•Day to day administration and maintenance of GHFP-II web based applications and websites
•Maintain and enhance existing applications in response to new feature requests
•Assist in resolving application problems
•Database management, monitoring and optimization
•Discuss new requirements with users and prepare requirements document for Development team
•Collaborate closely with outside consultant to enhance and troubleshoot custom built web applications
•Work with the Director of IT and Administration on special IT projects
•Write and develop guides and manual for using GHFP-II web based applications and sites
Qualifications:
•Bachelors degree in computer science or related field
•4 years of professional software development experience
•Heavy knowledge of object-oriented Java and J2EE
•Some experience with Open Source frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate
•Good knowledge of web technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, XHTML, ColdFusion, AJAX, PHP, CSS & jQuery
•Strong experience working with MySQL
•Strong knowledge of Apache Tomcat, troubleshooting and optimizing applications
•Any experience with Central Authentication Server (CAS) is a plus
•Hands-on knowledge in one or more web content management systems (CMS) including: Open CMS, Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, Mambo, Wiki etc
•Deep understanding of web application load and performance analysis
•Strong communication and teamwork skills
•Willing to participate in an agile development process
•Strong understanding of website design, and development foundation
•Familiarity with mobile web site design and development
•Familiarity with bug tracking tools, and web stress test tools
•Excellent organizational and documentation skills
•Excellent customer service skills
•Strong technical aptitude and problem solving skills
•Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact well with peers, other individuals and associates
Compensation:
This is an exempt position and the salary is commensurate with experience.
