SUMMARY:
We’re looking for someone who understands Linux on the desktop to help us build and maintain a robust desktop environment for digital film production.
Production Support is a small team that supports Pixar’s GNU/Linux-based workstations. Our work is critical to the day-to-day operations of the studio. The tools that Pixar uses to produce animated features are both created and used on our workstations. We are responsible for diagnosing and resolving problems that emerge as animators, digital artists, programmers, and others do their work.
Our group thrives on close collaboration, creative thinking and independent initiative. We interface with almost every group at the studio, which requires us to communicate technical issues to different audiences, and diplomatically navigate social situations and balance work from many sources. Our daily work exposes us to a wide range of activity, from desktop hardware internals to OS troubleshooting, from packaging to application support.
Some of the things we work with every day: Fedora/RHEL/CentOS, rpm/yum, Xorg, Gnome, desktop hardware, git, Python, shell scripts, device drivers, nfs, ssh.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Extensive knowledge of UNIX-like operating systems (e.g. Linux and FreeBSD)
-Excellent attention to detail
-Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate highly-technical concepts in lay terms
-Excellent ability to process and concisely share relevant information in a timely fashion
-Ability to prioritize, respond to, report on and complete multiple, simultaneous requests
-Ability to work on occasional evenings and weekends
-Ability to work under or behind desks and in server rooms
-Ability to lift and manipulate objects weighing up to 35 lbs
